This is my son Gus, he fell asleep on my lap. I admit I feel that I/we are only completely free when sleeping. When sleeping we allow ourselves to experience thoughts and feelings we learn to “deal with” in our real life. We tailor our feelings to fit this world, our thoughts and words to what is appropriate. When asleep we are free to dream.
Sometimes these dreams seem terrifying, sometimes wonderful. This does not mean that dreaming is reality, it does mean that our unconscious state takes over. When sleeping I am free, I see it in others who are sleeping. I especially see the freedom to experience God in dreams.
